Our 20 year dream of preserving "The Bog" has been realized!
In late August of 2009, the Conservation Easement agreements were executed, setting aside 458 acres by Camp Speers-Eljabar YMCA to be forever retained in their natural state and free from development forever more! This was a culmination of over 20 years of Camp's Board of Trustees and Staff's efforts to protect our unique, natural environment. The eased land includes all of "The Bog" also known as "Long Swamp" and many surrounding acres.
Future plans include expanding trails that allow hiking, mountain biking and horseback riding on appropriate portions of the Conservation Easement Site as well as interpretive signage to provide visitors with information about the variety of flora and fauna located on the site.
